Dr. Wendy Smeltzer, BSc, MD, CCFP, FCFP


Dr. Wendy Smeltzer established a medical esthetics practice in 1998 after 18 years of clinical medicine. She is the founded Canada’s first medical spa, Santé Spa, combining medical esthetics with spa services and lifestyle programs. She has extensive knowledge and experience with retail skin care programs and sales. Wendy is known in the spa and medical esthetic industry for her commitment to high standards and best practices. She has chaired the Standards and Practices Committee for Leading Spas of Canada, the national Canadian spa association and wrote the standards for spas, suppliers and educational bodies for the Canadian spa industry. In 2004, she partnered with Allergan to prepare guidelines for the medical industry, which are now distributed to medical spas throughout Canada. She sits on the Board of the Canadian Association of Aesthetic Medicine as well as holds an appointment by the Minister of Health for Alberta. In November 2005, she was named to the Top 100: Canada’s Most Powerful Women by the Women’s Executive Network.

In addition to Santé Spa in Calgary, Dr. Smeltzer expanded the Santé brand, opening Santé Spa Bear Mountain, housed within the Westin Bear Mountain Golf Resort & Spa in Victoria, BC. 

She sold her Santé Spa brand in 2009, and continues working with Santé as Medical Director for both locations and The Spa Ritual in Calgary.

Committed to excellence in the industry, Smeltzer is also President & Medical Director of Medique Skincare, a unique medical product line designed to complement medical esthetic practices.

Dr. Smeltzer speaks widely on medical esthetics, cosmeceutical and skin care products in addition to lecturing on standards for the spa and medical esthetic industries throughout Canada and abroad.
