Enhanced Education & Networking Opportunities for 2010

LSC is pleased to announce its education programs for 2010. To offer enhanced education and networking opportunities for the membership across the country, next year’s schedule will include a series of forums in Ontario, Calgary, Halifax and Vancouver as well as free webinar presentations.

“Recognizing our membership spans across the entire country and the challenges our members are facing with reduced travel budgets, we have decided to forego our annual LSC conference for 2010. Rather than ask our members to travel long distances to the conference, we’re traveling across the country to bring the networking and education opportunities closer to them”, says Donna Holtom, LSC President.

“And the addition of free webinars ensures all members and their staff teams are able to participate, regardless of tightened budgets. We’re listening to the needs and challenges being expressed by our membership and offering inexpensive solutions while still providing opportunities to learn, grow and network with others in the industry”, adds Holtom.

And for members seeking educational programs for their leadership teams and staff meetings, all recorded webinar presentations and speaker notes will be posted on a members-only section of the LSC website. “It’s an excellent and inexpensive way to provide educational programs to your in-house team”, notes DeeAnn Lensen of Advanced Spa Technologies.

Dates, locations and topics are being finalized now by LSC’s Conference, Education and Networking Committee and will be released shortly. Any members wishing to join the committee or contribute ideas on topics, speaker recommendations or potential locations to host events, please contact wanda@leadingspasofcanada.com.

Canada’s Spa Industry Continues to Grow

Snapshot Surveys were recently conducted in partnership between ISPA and Leading Spas of Canada to secure research data on the Canadian spa industry. The October 2009 Snapshot Survey focused on information regarding quarterly financial performance, spa visits and workforce changes in comparison to the third quarter of the previous year.

Some of the survey highlights:

  • Spas experienced an improvement in gross revenue in the third quarter of 2009 with 56% of spas indicating an increase
  • 65% of spas indicated an increase in their profits over the 3rd quarter of last year
  • 49% indicated the number of spa visits were up; 39% indicated spa visits were down. 12% reported no change from last year
  • 30% of spas reported adding new positions to their workforce

LSC Meets the Media

LSC CEO Wanda Love recently traveled to Toronto to meet the media, introducing them to Leading Spas of Canada and its members. And the outcome was very positive, garnering some immediate results including:

  • Article in upcoming issue of SpaLife magazine, discussing current spa trends and featuring LSC members

  • Commitment from Homefront magazine to partner on an upcoming project, in addition to a regular column on Spa Trends
  • Opportunity for members to participate in Toronto’s Anti-Aging Show alongside Elevate Magazine
  • And a promotional opportunity for Toronto area spas and all suppliers to participate in Elevate Magazine’s spring “Makeover Issue”

Additionally, other media including Cityline, Flare, More, Cosmetics and others are interested in regular updates for consideration in upcoming issues. Special thanks to the many members who participated in this media tour by contributing items for the media gift packs distributed. They were a hit with all editors!

All members are encouraged to forward information on all new products, ingredients, treatments and events to wanda@leadingspasofcanada.com for inclusion in future media releases and pr initiatives. We’ll also share your information on Facebook and Twitter – which now boasts over 1100 followers!
